Sensational Cape Town Summer Dining Ideas
Ready to get started? Let’s get right down to checking out a range of rather delightful summer dining ideas at some of the city’s top foodie destinations.
Silvermist Wine Estate, Constantia Main Road, Constantia | +27 (0)21 795 0125
During its winter closure, La Colombe’s Head Chefs, Scot Kirton and James Gaag, took independent trips to the United States. They have brought back plenty of inspiration for this year’s summer menu, along with a new spin on how guests enjoy the dining experience. Instead of a la carte menu options, very carefully curated menus are offered with a choice of an 11 course menu or a slightly reduced multi-course menu. The summer menu is filled with heavenly delights, such as the La Colombe Garden (incredible salad presented on a mini garden, with thin phyllo pastry, chicken liver parfait, porcini mousse and sherry gel), sweet potato, smoked garlic and Jerusalem artichoke, Asia steamed bun, seared scallop, quail, parsnip, braaied corn, bok choi and teriyaki, Granny Smith ice lollies served on liquid nitrogen, herb gnocchi, Manjari cremeux, coconut, passionfruit and rum-braised pineapple, petit fours. Be warned however… world-class dining comes at the price of R990 – R1650 per person depending on whether you opt for wine pairing or not.
Roundhouse Road, The Glen, Camps Bay | +27 (0)21 438 4347
The Rumbullion menu is a laid-back, easy menu that is perfect for summer. While it is not an entirely new menu for the upcoming season, the location of The Roundhouse above the Atlantic Ocean makes it a perfect choice for those long summer days. Outdoor dining does not get much better than this, with exceptional service, fine wines and unbelievable views adding even more to the experience. Menu highlights include picnic breakfasts, lazy lunch picks such as tapas jars, charcuterie, freshly baked breads, salads, cheeses and hot dishes. For sundowners, you can watch the sun set over the ocean while enjoying scrumptious pizza, craft beers and cocktails. The rambling lawn is great for picnics, and is also perfect for kids who want to let off some steam.
Eikendal Wine Estate, R44, Stellenbosch | +27 (0)21 855 1422
In the Cape Winelands meanwhile, the Eikendal Pizza & Wine pairings are sure to be a hit for those wanting a relaxed Cape Town summer dining option. This pairing menu offers a trio of small, thin crust pizzas that are carefully paired with suitable estate wines. Look out for flavour combinations such as chicken and pineapple pizza paired with a fresh Sauvignon Blanc or brie and cranberry pizza paired with the estate’s 2016 Rose. This pairing costs just R40 per person. It is available from Tuesday to Sunday – bookings are advised. If you’re in the mood to head out of town for a day out in the gorgeous Winelands, this is a good choice!
