Your Weekly Guide - Edition017 12 July 2017 - View Online

As much as we love exploring our city and finding a few hideaways for you to enjoy, there’s one thing we love more: doing something good for someone else. It just gives us a happy, fuzzy feeling inside. Since Mandela Day is coming up on 18 July, we’ve dedicated this newsletter to the spirit of giving back (to you and others, too).

Seeing as how we are in a giving mood (when are we not though?), check out this scrumptious idea. We thought we’d take a page from the cookbook, Ukutya Kwasekhaya: Tastes From Nelson Mandela's Kitchen, and share this amazing soy sauce baked lamb chops recipe with you. Better still, you could WIN a copy of the book, so keep reading to find out how.

By the way, have you figured out what you’re doing for your 67 minutes yet? No? Well then, we’re about to make your decision a whole lot easier. We’ve put together a list of a number of charities to check out in Pretoria. From meal packing in Menlyn to caring for the aged or helping man’s best friend, you’ll definitely be able to find a way to give back this July.

Did you know that Madiba himself was a boxer? Of course you did, you smartie, you. To tell you the truth, we have a great respect for the sport, so we’ve decided to shed some light on the best boxing clubs in the city. Bonus – boxing is a great way to get in that extra workout before summer arrives… ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.

If you want something else to dance about (as if everything else in this guide weren’t enough), Michael Flatley’s Lord Of The Dance: Dangerous Games is heading back to SA in August. Yes, we are just as excited as you are. This show has it all – cutting-edge technology, special effects and outstanding performers. You don’t want to miss this one, trust us!

And now for our Top 5 recommendations of upcoming events:

1. Kick off your weekend by rocking out at Hard Rock Cafe’s DJ Night. Friday.

2. Dust off the running shoes and join in on the Gajiga Run this coming Saturday.

3. Get your folk blues on with Margaret’s Daughter Live at Rockwood Theatre on Saturday.

4. Slip into your comfy pants and head over to the folk blues singer Andra’s live show on Sunday.

5. Do your part on Mandela Day and lend a hand at Viva Village this Tuesday.

Enjoy your week,
